Try to imagine a perfectly grilled chicken. Can you see the vibrant brown colour? Can you smell the smoky meat, fresh from the grill? Can you see the glistening crispy layer of skin? Now imagine cutting it with your knife and it smoothly goes in, and the only friction met is on the well done covering. Now when this picturesque chicken comes to life, Barcelos gives you a magic ingredient to make it even better. It’s called the Supa Peri sauce. Warning: It’s really spicy so do taste it before drenching your chicken in it) Veri Peri is a safer bet, if you ask me personally.
BlabberCat’s lunch at Barcelos was a heady indulgence of gourmet burgers, grilled meat, molecular drinks and desserts. But more than that, it felt like an afternoon spent at the city of Barcelos itself. The town’s symbol is a rooster and you’ll spot quite a few at the eatery. A wall painting brings an imaginary market day, in Barcelos, to life. A sort of wilderness is felt in the food selection and presentation but yet the burgers are gourmet, healthy and insta ready. The first authentic Afro-Portugese cuisine is trending big.
The Peri Peri Black Magic – Not only one burger in particular but the entire platter of coloured burgers (available in miniature sizes) is a must order. We got a lot of messages and mails from our readers enquiring about the colour affecting the taste; let me clarify, the colours are not a result of artificial colouring and in fact these are the healthiest burgers you’ll ever get. The chicken burger that we tried came in soft black buns, the grilled succulent meat glazed and covered in spicy sauces, mayo and fresh veggies. It was so delicious that we had to call for another one.
Flamed Grill Chicken – The most beautiful chicken dish I’ve seen. It was huge, probably as big as my stomach so I didn’t know how I could have possibly eaten it all. But once you start, there’s no stopping. Red, brown and golden grilled chicken on med-high flame with dollops of peri-peri sauce drizzled and brushed; this dish is the menu’s pride and gives major cravings and FOMO after you’ve had it.
Vegetarian options – Barcelos is easily the most speculated restaurant in Calcutta right now. The biggest query doing the rounds is whether vegetarians shouldn’t even bother going. The menu boasts of various veg options from platters of kebabs and mezze to skewers of paneer and veggies. There are veg burgers, sizzlers and many more.
This is the 3rd outlet in India. The first two is in NCR and Gurgaon and now the third being here in Calcutta at Acropolis. An average cost for two will be Rs 1,000.
