The trend of buying separates has worked wonders for fashionistas who care about styling and acknowledge how one outfit can be restyled in so many ways that even when you’re repeating it doesn't give away your closet secret. When stylist and designer Rekha Bubna noticed the slugabeds crossing the line from casual to lazy, she mentally restyled them and visualised her first collection. A year later, inspired by the onset of Spring and new beginnings, Rekha presents a pop collection of trends that speak comfort first and celebrates fashion in the same dialogue. Desire for indo-western, advanced patterns, variety of cuts in daily wear and desi twist for formal events are all found at the swanky boutique of Saatvika. Here are our top seven favourite looks:
A Canary Carol
Just like the Tuscan sun, we love shining but mellow. Comes with a neon floral print scarf; it’s a breath of fresh air amidst head-to-toe flower overdose and the colour strikes out for all the right reasons. it’s one of the very rare vibrant colours that is visually soothing.
Stylist Speak: Summer fashion is all about a sun kissed palate this season and our favourite look from the collection is this kurta in canary and the scarf break is modestly the oomph factor. Floral can never become cliche for Spring but some get it wrong when they become a print chaos and add floral to their accessories as well. Not only floral, but go easy on any print and keep it minimalistic.
Shades and Layers of Red
Giving a twist to red can be as risky as cooking Ravioli at Masterchef. But here the red was broken by its lighter shade and a layer is seen creating a movement. The tassels shaded in sync with the palate
Stylist Speak: I think from a stylist’s point of view when I design a garment. I visualise the look first and then get to sketching and stitching. With this outfit, the first thing that came to my mind was a 3D effect and a mild ombre effect. Adding a different colour bag and shoe is not advisable.
Left in the Nature
Being in the outdoor, close to nature simply uplifts your spirits and cleanses your miseries. Acting like the perfect healer even good clothes fulfil the role. Whether it is the lyrical nature of her pattern or the choice of her colour palette she will live up to your dream.
Stylist Speak: When shopping remember to notice how the fabric feels against your skin, if you’re not comfortable now you wont find it any better the next time you wear it. Best for vacations and perfect for a sunset high-tea. Pair this summer jacket kurta with leggings or without.
Three Black Sheep
Recently, black has become a popular choice for day wear also. It’s functionality makes it to the shopping bag even if its not on the shopping list. We wore the same kurta in three different ways, playing with the silhouettes and each ended up looking remarkably different. A Gujarati style jacket, a neck scarf with a dash of neon and a printed dupatta style pre-stitched scarf were chosen to style this plain black kurta.
Stylist Speak: It’s a myth that black can’t look pretty. In fact black can be styled in so many ways that its always a safe bet to keep some standard pieces in your wardrobe. These pieces don’t target any specific age group. The jacket can easily be thrown over a pair of pants later and can be worn to a formal night out. Over here Astha has worn it with white culottes but it can be teamed with any colour pants, skirts, legging or palazzo. In fact a solid black palazzo with this kurta and a striking bag will also make for an impactful look.
A well tailored kurta is as important as the perfect pair of denim or the crisp white shirt that lets you customise your outfit depending on the soiree you are planning to wearing it for. Vintage or jewelled kurta buttons are every fashion archivist's agenda these days so now you know one boutique where you'll find a spectacular range of kurta buttons. One scarf and many roles - we chose different prints of the same scarf to show you the variations. From work to quick sangrias with the girls or even family duties amidst work is more than doable in these looks.
Stylist Speak: With solid or colour block kurtas and shirts, a set of vintage buttons or silver danglers or even colourful tassels add to the boho desi twist. We specialise in adding variations to regular looks so that you're never bored of your shopping.
Colours of a Goddess
Many out there love staying close to their roots. Their environment may or may not effect their wardrobe choices but traditional wear is required in more than one occasion. Well-fitted and comfortable, this piece will
Stylist Speak: When red is in volume, keep it classy with one staple accessory. The combination of red and gold, if carried with elegance, is an irreplaceable head-turner. The younger generation are doing away with dupattas which is absolutley fine, but I really suggest they should opt for overall more traditional looks once in a while with a bindi or other forgotten accessories.
Love and Light
Comfort and style go hand-in-hand. Breathe easy in this printed cotton kurta and accentuate your height. With women leading multifaceted roles, this kurta is handy and a savior.
Stylist Speak: Team it with white denims to black leggings or flared skirt or palazzos to give a more dressy look.
