Chris Gayle’s heady storm at Irish House

Chris Gayle’s heady storm at Irish House

The beast stirs up a toxic storm and this time is deadly.

We were at: irish House, Quest Mall, Kolkata

What were we doing there: Sipping on cocktails made Batsman Chris Gayle

What was he doing there: Promoting McDowell’s, Black Dog, Ciroc and Smirnoff

When was the tremor felt: 7-8 pm on 7/04/15

Kolkata was ornamented with all the star frenzy last night, on Tuesday, as the IPL season kickstarted. But former KKR player, now a Royal Challenger, Chris Gayle skips the opening ceremony to spend time with fans. Punctual and non-fussy Gayle reaches the Irish House and chooses a spot right behind the bar. He interacts with ‘fellow’ bartenders and clears his station. Dressed in a plain black t shirt and dark blue denims, Gayle accessorises with gold chains and cross.

What BlabberCat loved:

Especially for BlabberCat, Gayle made ‘Frisky’ a strong Whisky cocktail that was truly a heady experience.

The other cocktails that he made were: Smirnoff Licorice, Black Dog Punch and Ciroc Martini, all are available at Irish House.

When the beast is not hunting: We observed Gayle to be very relaxed, patient, calm and understanding. He broke into laughter frequently that made everyone smile. He put in a lot of effort to entertain the ladies surrounding him and ended up being quite the flatterer. He stole a glance at the television once-in-a-while to keep track of the opening ceremony which he was missing out on. He snacked on Chicken nuggets and orange juice while obliging people with selfies and small talk.

After Irish House Gayle had to go to M Bar where he turned DJ and shook a leg for the already-love-struck fans. The stormy evening finally came to a still only to remind us that this is just the beginning. IPL season 8, 2015 has a lot more in store for us.

As I neared the meeting spot, I noticed a bunch of curious foodies, with no fixed pattern or narrow group type, scattered but yet gathered to embark on a memorable food journey. And as we had expected, there was no formal introduction required because mostly everyone recognised each other from social media or word of mouth. A home baker, whose Instagram food photography beats any restaurant in Kolkata, IIHM Young Chef India winners Garima Poddar and Simran Kapur, Kolkata Foodie girls Priyanka Gupta and Ritika Jaiswal, anonymous reporter who couldn’t disclose his portal for company’s policies were among the few who had come with big appetites and open minds. #KolkataFoodJourney presented Entrée to Dessert and The India Diaries was in association with Uber Cabs and dessert partner was Mrs Magpie, Chocolate Partner was Chocotarian, online media partner was BlabberCat. For the first time ever in Kolkata, a journey of food of this calibre was organised which created quite the stir and now everyone wants a sequel.

Farmers Market 2016

After a massive success last year, Karen Anand brought Farmer’s Market back to Calcutta only for all the stalls to get sold out hours before closing time. Originally started in Pune, Farmer’s market is held annually in various parts of the country to celebrate food, organic living, healthy beverages and exotic food produce that are not easily accessible. It got too hot to stand for long but the live food counters selling such beautiful products, ingredients and sample food for tasting kept the spirits high and the energy did not die down before 7 pm.

A masterstroke tis season ‘Mythh’ at Hotel Hindustan International with the Mexican Food Fiesta. But did the food compliment the concept? Was Mexican cuisine brought to justice? HHI has always celebrated variety of cuisines and special festivals where food is essential. Mexican cuisine in particular was missing from the scene till a few years back when a number of Mexican takeaways and fine dining started. But the ratio is still less and HHI jumped in to meet the demand for the festive month and left us slurping for more.  – Anushree Kanoi

Which is the slyest restaurant in town?

One would never guess, that amidst a popping Salt Lake spot with such a high energy corporate and college crowd, is a vintage chic fine dining restaurant. My only speculation was, will the food live up to such an elaborate and stunning interior? More importantly, the presentation was so soul touching, was the taste remotely lost?
