Let the summer bridal dream come true as the star of stars brings the tropical country alive with his ‘Elements’. Couturier to camera, Manish Malhotra opened Lakmé Fashion WeekSummer/Resort 2016with ‘ELEMENTS’ – his Spring/Summer 2016 Haute Couture collection, presented LYF Smartphones, at Mehboob Studio in Mumbai.
‘ELEMENTS’ marks a new direction for label ‘MANISH MALHOTRA’, celebrating the designer’s inimitable style of glamour through a couture lens. Comprising of over 70 ensembles for a beautiful summer wedding, ‘ELEMENTS’ blossomed on the runway, inspired Nature’s four glories– Earth, Water, Wind and Flame.
With such heady inspirations its imperative the collection offers more than brilliant and that’s what Malhotra has done through tailored ponchos and overlapped trousers; cocktail dresses with graceful sari drapes; off-shoulder jumpsuits with Victorian trails, all make for playful additions to a bridal wardrobe. Think colourful garden mehendis. Breezy open-air sangeets. Cascading layers of organza, tussar and crepe in dreamy hues of bapink, powder blue, mint green and sunset orange. Floral motifs on asymmetrical cuts and sharp tailoring added an edge to the collection, enhanced Manish’s handpicked uncuts, rubies, emerald & diamond accessories from Anmol Jewellers along with handcrafted belts & beaded fringe bags.
‘ELEMENTS’ also presented a capsule collection for the modern groom. Sharp jackets and kurtas, tailored pants and churidars in shades of blue and ivory were showcased for the millennial gentleman.
“ELEMENTS has been one of my most creatively gratifying experiences. The modern Indian bride is my muse, because there really is no point in wearing a gorgeous outfit if the bride cannot have fun in it. I wanted to showcase the expanse of possibilities that young, stylish brides- and grooms-to-be could explore for their big day,” said Malhotra.
The mise en scène depicted nature, in keeping with the theme of the collection. Models showcased the LYF Water 7 Smartphone on the runway. The stunning Jacqueline Fernandez in a pastel pink gown and sheer cape and the dapper Arjun Kapoor in a midnight blue kurta and pants closed the show to thunderous applause. Mrs. Nita Ambani, Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla, Kareena Kapoor, Farah Khan, Dia Mirza, Sangeeta Bijlani, Bhumi Pednekar, Kanika Kapoor, Sophie Choudhry and Punit Malhotra, to name a few, graced the front row.
