TOP 8 fashion week designers at 'Walk on Air'

Fashion entrepreneurs from Kolkata join hands to combine style with substance and diversity with commercial acumen and showcase a hand-selected summer collection by the fashion week stars. Citrine - a multi designer boutique in Kolkata, best known for being a favourite for many acclaimed designers, is hosting a three day pop-up from 20th-22nd April, 11 AM - 7 PM. The beauty and brains behind Kolkata’s most heady summer project are Vrinda Kanoria, Tavishi Kanoria and celebrated stylist Neha Gandhi with BlabberCat as their official blogging partner. Presenting to you the top 8 designers we recommend not to miss at the ‘Walk on Air’.

1. Urvashi Joneja (Mumbai)

Recognised since her days at NIFT Delhi, fashion world’s raising giant brings for us resort ready looks in pop colours and giant sequins. Her colour palate for the season include aqua blue, candy pink and summery yellow. She is known for visually easy patterns and repetition of shapes in elasticity and metallic shades which, the designer says is inspired from American artist Tara Donovan's installations. We also look forward to her interplay of deconstruction and draping techniques. Her draped gowns are even perfect for your next Goa trip.

2. Wendell Rodricks (Goa)

Talking about Goa, how can you not mention Wendell Rodricks and his signature white black and yellow linen. This time vibrant flowy summery silk kaftans and dresses in colour-block are on the summer wardrobe wishlist. We go back to basics with a touch of gold and silver, a perfect classy summer of minimalism in his latest eco -friendly resort wear collection.

3. Lotus Sutr  By Karishma Jamwal (Mumbai)

This designer interestingly works with surface textures along with embellishments comprising old coins and keys on luxurious fabrics like lightweight chiffon and silk fabric to give her collection a breezy-summery vibe.  Look out for a whole collection in a Handloom look to go with the current vibe of the season. We especially love her Tie-Dye, artful and bohemian style designed to flatter women of various body structures in long Draped dresses, jackets and draped dhoti jumpsuits.

4. Vedika M (Kolkata)

Kolkata’s rising star is creating waves through her hand painted, touch of block-prints, vibrant, resort wear best for pool parties and lazy Sundays. We specially recommend her one shoulder jumpsuits, crop top skirts, high low dresses and drapes that are comfortably chic. If you love flowy silhouettes and unique drapes, this is your new go-to label. Canary yellow has been their favourite for the season along with midnight blue, corals, sea green and orange in the form of watercolour tints, brushstrokes and block prints.

5. Ravage by Raj Shroff  (Bangalore)

True to it’s name, this label is rugged and ravaged, contemporary Indian-inspired ensembles

Edgy, indigenous, highly creative and complex designs create a true global desi vibe by designer Raj Shroff. We will be witnessing a mélange of grunge & Avant Grade chic draped dresses and draped jackets. His silhouettes are really out of the box and indie genre.

6. Not so Serious by Pallavi Mohan (Delhi)

"The world needs to come together and celebrate diversity” - Pallavi.

Social media can’t stop drooling over her vintage skirts with dainty embellishments. This summer line up is ultra feminine, ruffled, sheer in delicate peach and sky blue. A frothy collection that set the tone for an expectant summer wardrobe.

7. Saurabh Kant Srivastava

Inspired by history and gender equality, this designer who usually stays away from social media is highly respected for his couture gowns in multicolours, embroidery, roses, and striking pattern and also for his futuristic range of accessories.

8. Label Poshpride by Prerna (Delhi)

Poshpride is a venture in textural exploration with a focus on unique surfaces, structural shapes and impeccable tailoring. Every piece is lovingly and deliberately created using hand finished intricate, signature embroidery. Employing local and skilled artisans ensures the highest degree of craftsmanship, Quality, devotion and care to every unique piece. While every industry has its ups and downs, fashion is the only industry that is up even when it’s down. Designers don’t stop designing, people won’t stop wearing clothes, the idea of looking new will not stop reocurring our minds. Even if an individual is not directly related to this industry, the curiosity of the vast glamourous art world bedazzles everyone. Reading real life stories of how certain labels became a global superpower or what a designer’s journey has been like or how your dream bag is made, is the most satisfying dream come true. For those who live for fashion probably do understand the rewarding feeling one experiences when hearing it from the horse’s mouth. It’s emotional and magical at the same time.
